Shannon Falls near Squamish, BC is spectacular to visit and I've wanted to paint it for years. However, how does one capture the thundering sound, the pervasive damp, the sheer volume of rushing water that tumbles down the rock face?
I started with the rock face. I painted it in detail, along with the vegetation and added the water last.
When I was just about done, I called in my critics. My young daughter responded: "Hmmm, it's ok mom, but there's no magic."
What a damning judgement! She explained that I'd painted it too life like, and it was too gloomy. She was right and thanks to her I was able to add a little more magic. I think I did ok.
